Zaltbommel (G): Gasthuiskapel

This church was built as the chapel of a hospital in the 15th century and is still part of that complex. The tower formally never belonged to the hospital. Its lower part dates from the second half of the 15th century, the upper part is from the early 16th century, while the spire is from ca. 1530. The actual church is a one-aisled building from the 15th century. Originally it must have been in Gothic style, but it was drastically altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. Originally it had a choir, while its plaster coat was added later. The shape of the windows is probably not original either. The church still has its 16th-century barrel-vaults.
