Valburg (G): reformed church

The oldest part of the reformed church of Valburg is its tower, which dates from the 13th century. This tower belonged to a small church in Romanesque style. The nave was enlarged to its current size in the 14th century. The walls of both the tower and the nave contain both tuff stones and bricks, with tuff being used for the lower parts. The Romanesque choir was replaced by the current Gothic one in the third quarter of the 15th century. This choir is flanked by chapels on both sides. The chapel on the south side is as old as the choir itself, while the chapel on the north side dates from the second quarter of the 16th century. In that same period the choir was heightened. The tower was heightened a bit after the Reformation.
